History

Prairie Branch Cemetery is one of Montague County's pioneer community burial grounds, set among farmland near county roads. It is notable among the county's cemeteries as one of only three known to have kept tables or benches on the grounds—a feature of the Upland Southern 'graveyard working' tradition, in which families gathered for a day of weeding and hoeing the graves and then shared a meal on site.
