History
The Griffith family, colonists in Stephen F. Austin's second colony, received a Mexican land grant at this Montgomery County site and settled here with their three sons in 1831, building a log cabin. Son Leroy Alonzo Griffith helped organize the first Texas Grange in 1873, and John Maynard Griffith married Angelina Dickinson, the "Babe of the Alamo" who as an infant survived the 1836 battle with her mother Susanna. A state marker to the Griffith homesite and cemetery was placed in 1980.
