History
William Peter Cartwright (1813-1844) was a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Cartwright, who moved their family of eleven children to the Lake Creek settlement of Stephen F. Austin's second colony in 1832. William took part in the Texas Revolution alongside his brother Matthew Winston Cartwright, and the family is remembered among Montgomery County's pioneer settlers.
