History

Thomas Young Buford (1814-1839) served in the cavalry company commanded by Captain William H. Smith at the Battle of San Jacinto. He is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches, where in 1936 the State of Texas placed a granite Centennial marker at his grave. His marker stands among those of other Texas Revolution figures interred at the historic cemetery.
