History
Elias E. Hamilton was a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto, the 1836 engagement that secured Texas independence. He is memorialized in Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches, where several Texas Revolution veterans are buried. The State of Texas erected a granite memorial in his honor in 1936 as part of its Centennial commemorations.
