Built about 1830 by German-Jewish merchant Adolphus Sterne, this dogtrot house is the oldest frame dwelling standing on its original site in Nacogdoches. Sterne was a financier of the Texas Revolution who helped raise and fund the New Orleans Greys, and his home hosted guests such as Davy Crockett, Thomas J. Rusk, and Sam Houston, who was baptized into the Catholic Church in the parlor. The Sterne family occupied the house until 1869, after which the von der Hoya family owned it until donating it to the City of Nacogdoches in 1958; it now operates as the Sterne-Hoya House Museum and Library.
