History

This cemetery lies in the historic Oran community of northeastern Palo Pinto County. Originally called Black Springs for a nearby water source, the settlement was established before the Civil War and was associated with early cattlemen such as Oliver Loving, Charles Goodnight and Jack Cureton. In 1886 residents renamed the community Oran in honor of Texas governor Oran M. Roberts.
