History

By 1855 the pioneer cattleman Oliver Loving had moved to the future Palo Pinto County, where he ran a country store near Keechi Creek and began ranching in the area that became the community of Oran. Loving, born in Kentucky in 1812 and in Texas from 1843, went on to become one of the state's first great trail drivers and, with Charles Goodnight, blazed the famous Goodnight-Loving Trail. A marker stands at the site of his 1855 ranch home.
