History

Elmwood Cemetery in Mineral Wells was established in 1883 on land donated to the city by G. W. Slaughter and G. P. Barber. The following year, burials from an earlier public plot known as The Cove were moved here; the oldest grave belongs to Nellie Crump, who died in 1881. First called the City Cemetery, it was renamed Elmwood after members of the civic league planted elm trees on the grounds in 1913.
