History
The Texas Panhandle War Memorial in Amarillo, created in 1992, honors service members from the 26-county Panhandle region who died in war. Credited to L. D. Weeks and approved by Randall County in 1992, its circular memorial garden is punctuated by granite monoliths for each conflict from the Spanish-American War through the Persian Gulf, honoring more than 1,550 residents. The grounds display an F-100 Super Sabre and a Huey helicopter, and a 15,000-square-foot education center with military artifacts and a chapel opened in 2020.
