After Big Lake was voted the Reagan County seat in 1925, the county built its courthouse in 1927 to a Classical Revival design by Abilene architect David S. Castle. The two-story brick building has symmetrical facades with a central portico of arched entrances and Ionic pilasters and a hipped roof with small gabled dormers; an original roof cupola has since been removed. The courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and still serves as the county's administrative center.
