History
The Presbyterian congregation at Clarksville traces its origins to 1833-34, making it one of the oldest continuously worshiping Protestant congregations in Texas. Three sanctuaries have stood on this ground beside the Delaware Creek: the first in 1858-59, a second built in 1899 that burned in 1904, and the present building erected in 1905. An 1867 meeting held here helped lead to the founding of Trinity University in 1869. The Texas Historical Commission marker was erected in 2008.
