History

This marker in northern Red River County commemorates the point near the old Jonesboro Crossing of the Red River where Sam Houston first set foot on Texas soil on December 2, 1832, arriving as an envoy of President Andrew Jackson. The same crossing was used by David Crockett when he entered Texas in 1835. The State of Texas erected the marker in 1936.
