History

New Baden Cemetery serves a community founded in 1881 by German, Prussian, and Swiss immigrants under the Texas Land and Immigration Company and named for Baden-Baden, Germany. The colonists first built a two-story 'Immigrant House' that sheltered new arrivals and hosted church services and school before individual homes and a post office (1882) were established. The town's population grew from about forty in 1885 to some 175 by 1915.
