History
Thompson Cemetery sits at Laird Hill in northern Rusk County, in the area once occupied by the Mount Tabor Cherokee community about a mile southwest of Leverett's Chapel. The burial ground adjoins the old B. F. Thompson home place, and a family monument raised in 1902 by J. M. Thompson records the family's Scotch-Irish and Cherokee ancestry, describing his mother as a daughter of Judge John Martin of the Cherokee Nation. A Thompson descendant, Lou Della Thompson, married Kilgore merchant W. R. Crim, on whose land one of the great East Texas oil wells came in during 1930.
