History

The State Highway 23 Bridge at the Clear Fork of the Brazos River consists of a single 150-foot Parker through truss span plus ten concrete girder approach spans, built in 1929 by the Virginia Bridge and Iron Company to a Texas Highway Department design. It carried State Highway 23 (later US 283) north of Fort Griffin State Park until it was bypassed in 1998 and left standing for pedestrian use. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
