History
The Presbyterian congregation in Albany was organized with seven members, first meeting in a small rock house on Jacobs Street before building a frame sanctuary on land given by Henry and John Jacobs. The present Gothic Revival stone church was erected in 1898 in memory of Joseph Beck Matthews (1824-1895), one of Shackelford County's first cattlemen and an early church elder. It is a contributing building to the Shackelford County Courthouse Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1976.
