History
Sydney O. Pennington represented the municipality of Shelby at the Convention of 1836 at Washington-on-the-Brazos, where he signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. A Texas Centennial grave marker was placed for him at Shelbyville Cemetery in 1936, and his heirs' land-title case was tried at the Shelby County Courthouse in 1896.
