History

Coldwater Cemetery is the small burying ground of Coldwater, the original seat of Sherman County when the county was organized in 1889. After the railroads bypassed the town, an 1901 election moved the county seat to Stratford and Coldwater faded into a ghost town, leaving the cemetery as one of its few visible remains. A protective pipe-and-cable fence was placed around the graves in 1976, and an eighth grave was located during Stratford's centennial in 2001.
