History
The Cotton Belt Depot Museum occupies Tyler's historic railroad depot, which opened in 1905 and served passengers until service ended in 1956. The building was donated to the City of Tyler in 1988 and, after a major renovation, reopened in 2003 shared by the Tyler Transit Department and the museum. Run by volunteers of the Cotton Belt Rail Historical Society's Tyler Tap Chapter, it displays model train layouts, photographs, uniforms, and other items donated by former railroad employees, commemorating the St. Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt) Railway.
