History

Sabine Cemetery, about three miles north of Lindale in extreme northern Smith County, was founded with the Sabine community in 1899, when the Reverend W. L. Pate organized the Sabine Methodist Church and Joe Crone donated land for a church, cemetery, and school. The church and school became the center of local life, hosting early brush-arbor meetings, and the congregation merged with the Lindale Methodist Church in 1969. The burial ground is maintained by the Sabine Cemetery Association.
