History

Jamestown Cemetery lies in the northwestern corner of Smith County, near the intersection of Farm roads 1253 and 1805 north of Garden Valley, and serves the vanished community of Jamestown (also called Berrien, Jimtown, or Old Jamestown), settled in 1846. The cemetery stands on land bought by J. H. Florence in 1860; the surrounding town once supported a Masonic lodge chartered in 1856, blacksmiths, wagonmakers, and general stores before its last business closed in 1964. The burial ground remains after the community itself largely disappeared.
