History
The Old Sonora Ice House Ranch Museum is housed in a 1927 ice house that later served as a meat-processing and frozen-food locker plant before ending its commercial life as a barbecue smokehouse. Donated to the Sutton County Historical Society, the museum interprets the ranching and pioneer heritage of the region, including the wool and mohair industries. Its signature exhibit tells the story of outlaw Will Carver, a member of Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch, who was killed in a 1901 shootout on the streets of Sonora.
