History
Camp (Fort) Terrett was established on the North Llano River on February 2, 1852, by Lt. Col. Henry Bainbridge to guard the San Antonio-El Paso road against Comanche raids, and was named for Lt. John Terrett, killed at the Battle of Monterrey in 1846. Federal troops abandoned the post in February 1854, and its buildings later became the headquarters of a ranch; the state placed a marker at the site in 1936.
