History
Montgomery Ward located a regional retail and mail-order house in Fort Worth in 1928, building an eight-story reinforced concrete warehouse and store on West 7th Street just across the Trinity River from downtown. Contractor Thomas S. Byrne completed the 300,000-square-foot structure in seven months at a cost of $1.3 million, and a 1937 addition expanded it further. One of nine such regional centers Ward built between 1926 and 1929, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
