History

On May 1, 1880, Thomas L. and Elizabeth Cope deeded land in northern Mansfield to a trustee of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, for a public burial ground known as Wyatt's Chapel Cemetery, which welcomed all denominations. Recorded burials run from 1882 to 1912, and the cemetery holds both a Confederate veteran, John Joseph Hard, and a Union veteran, John Bell Mabry. It received a Historic Texas Cemetery designation, with a marker placed in 2001.
