History
This native limestone and sandstone building in Buffalo Gap served as Taylor County's first courthouse and jail. The jail dates from 1879 and the roughly $8,000 courthouse was completed in 1880, remaining the county seat's government building until the seat was moved to Abilene in 1883. Restored beginning in 1970, it is now the centerpiece of the Buffalo Gap Historic Village and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
