Buffalo Gap Historic Village is an open-air museum of relocated frontier buildings arranged around the original 1880 Taylor County Courthouse, the county's first, which stood only three years before the seat moved to Abilene. The site began in 1956 when Ernest Wilson bought the old stone courthouse and spent two decades gathering period buildings; it was formally established as a village in 1977 after Dr. R. Lee Rode and his wife Ann acquired the property. It preserves structures representing roughly 1875 to 1925, including the oldest log cabin in Taylor County, a two-room schoolhouse, a depot, a bank, and a doctor's office.
