History

This cemetery holds burials from the state institution west of Abilene that opened in the early 20th century as the State Epileptic Colony, was renamed the Abilene State Hospital in 1925, and became the Abilene State School in 1957. Located on state property and closed to the general public, it contains the graves of residents who died in the institution's care. The facility is known today as the Abilene State Supported Living Center.
