History
Nevill's Chapel Cemetery began as the family burial ground of Alexander B. Nevill, whose family came from Tennessee to Titus County in 1838 and set aside one acre west of their home in the Nevill headright survey. In 1906 Mary Nevill deeded the plot to the deacons of the adjoining Missionary Baptist Church, and the first community 'decoration day' was held in 1913. Now spread over six acres with more than 1,100 graves and tended by an association, the cemetery received a Texas Historical Commission marker in 1998; those buried there include veterans of American and foreign wars.
