History
The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum opened in 2001, named for Bob Bullock, the 38th lieutenant governor of Texas, who championed its creation. It interprets the "Story of Texas" across three floors of exhibitions plus an IMAX theater and the multisensory Texas Spirit Theater, and its 2018 "Becoming Texas" gallery covers more than 16,000 years of history. A centerpiece is the preserved hull of French explorer La Salle's ship La Belle, wrecked off the Texas coast in 1686. More than nine million visitors have come since the museum opened.
