History

The Texas Music Museum was established in Austin in 1984 as part of the Texas Sesquicentennial project and preserves the state's diverse musical heritage, including conjunto, Tejano, country, ragtime, jazz, gospel, and classical traditions of many ethnic communities. Since 2003 it has presented exhibits and programs in the Marvin C. Griffin Building at 1009 East 11th Street, and in 2005 the Texas House of Representatives recognized its work preserving Texas musical history.
