History
This Neoclassical building at 1017 East 11th Street in Austin is the headquarters of the Most Worshipful St. Joseph Grand Lodge of Texas, a body of Black (Prince Hall-tradition) Freemasonry. Designed by architect John Linn Scott and built by contractor J. M. Odom for about $90,000, the temple was constructed in 1949-1950, with its cornerstone laid in June 1950. It anchors Austin's historic East 11th Street corridor.
