History

Onion Creek Lodge No. 220, A.F. & A.M., was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Texas in 1858. Its founders were Masons who wanted a meeting place closer than Austin, six miles north, which required crossing the sometimes-dangerous Colorado River. The lodge has served South Austin since the 1850s and maintains the adjacent Boggy Creek Masonic Cemetery, which covers about 6.6 acres and holds more than 1,200 burials.
