History

The Burch-Cauble House, a restored residence associated with the pioneer Peter Cauble family, stands about two miles north of Chester in northwestern Tyler County beside the Burch-Cauble Cemetery. The site is tied to Valentine Burch, a hero of the Battle of San Jacinto, who is memorialized nearby by a 1936 Texas Centennial marker. The land was preserved through gifts to the Tyler County Heritage Society.
