History
Valentine Ignatius Burch, born near Bardstown, Kentucky, in 1813, fought at the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836. In 1843 he married and settled at Peach Tree Village in Tyler County, managing his father-in-law's plantation and his own lands in several counties. Burch and other residents established a private academy that served the area for years, and he is remembered with a State of Texas marker near Chester.
