History

The Jersey Lily was the saloon and courtroom of Judge Roy Bean, the self-styled 'Law West of the Pecos,' who became justice of the peace at Langtry in 1882. Bean named the frame building for the British actress Lillie Langtry, whom he idolized but never met; a sign-painter's error added the extra 'l' to the name. Bean held court on its porch until his death in 1903, and the Texas Historical Commission marked the building in 1965; it now anchors the Judge Roy Bean Visitor Center.
