History
This marker honors Isaac Van Zandt (1813-1847) and his wife, Frances Cooke Lipscomb Van Zandt (1816-1909). A lawyer and member of the Congress of the Republic of Texas, Isaac served as charge d'affaires to the United States, where he worked for annexation, and helped write the 1845 state constitution before dying of yellow fever while campaigning for governor. Van Zandt County was named in his honor in 1848.
