History
The Victoria Grist Windmill is a Dutch turret-mill-style gristmill built in 1870 by German immigrants Fred Meiss Jr. and Otto Fiek near Spring Creek west of Victoria. Standing 35 feet tall with four 15-foot blades and German-made millstones, it is probably the last remaining windmill of European design in the southwestern United States. It was moved to Memorial Square in 1935, listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 30, 1976, and designated an ASME landmark in 1991.
