History

The Townsend-Wilkins House at 106 N. Navarro Street in Victoria is a two-story L-shaped folk Victorian home built in the 1880s. It was the residence of physician G. R. Townsend, a prominent figure in Victoria's Black community, who established a nearby medical office before moving to Los Angeles in 1904; ownership then passed to Dr. John H. Wilkens, a founder of the Lone Star Medical Association. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 9, 1986.
