History

The Riverside Swinging Bridge is a swing-span Pratt truss railroad bridge built in 1904 by the Wisconsin Bridge and Iron Company for the International and Great Northern Railroad, carrying the line across the Trinity River between Walker and Trinity counties. Although designed to swing open for river traffic, it was turned only a handful of times, and it is the last swinging railroad bridge in Texas. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
