History

Buck Foster Cemetery, also known as Foster or Loma Cemetery, lies about twelve miles west of Huntsville in the Loma community. It was formally set aside in 1882 when William Harrison 'Buck' Foster sold his surrounding land but reserved one acre for the graveyard, though older sandstone markers show it was already in use; its oldest dated stone marks the 1870 grave of William McCulloch, and many Civil War veterans are buried there.
