History

Cincinnati Cemetery is one of the last surviving remnants of the town of Cincinnati, a Trinity River port and ferry crossing founded about 1837–1838 by James C. DeWitt in northern Walker County. The community thrived on steamboat traffic before it was devastated by the yellow fever epidemic of 1853 and then eclipsed after 1872, when the railroad crossed the Trinity downstream at Riverside. Today little remains of the once-bustling port but its early graves, some enclosed by an old iron fence.
