History
The Giddings-Stone Mansion was completed in 1870 for Jabez Deming Giddings (1814-1878), a Brenham banker, lawyer, and landowner for whom the town of Giddings is named. Built in a transitional Greek Revival style, the eleven-room house features a walnut staircase fabricated in St. Louis and eight fireplaces with carved walnut mantels. It passed through four generations of the Giddings and Stone families before the Heritage Society of Washington County acquired it in 1975. The mansion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and now operates as a house museum.
