History

The Danish Heritage Museum in Danevang preserves the story of a community founded by Danish settlers in 1894, which the Texas Legislature proclaimed the Danish Capitol of Texas in 1995. Housed in a building that replicates a large red-roofed Danish barn, it holds exhibits on Viking history, local cotton farming, and a rare complete collection of Bing & Grondahl Christmas plates. Next door stands the 1898 Pioneer House recreating early residents' daily life.
