History

The one-story stone building in this complex was erected about 1853 by Thomas C. Oatts, Round Rock's first permanent postmaster, and housed both his mercantile store and the town's first permanent post office. The adjacent two-story house was built about 1870 and became the residence of Dr. William M. Owen, a local physician and businessman, and for a time operated as the St. Charles Hotel. Both nineteenth-century buildings are recognized on the National Register.
