History

This cemetery is the Hispanic burial ground of Jonah, a farming community on the San Gabriel River in eastern Williamson County. Jonah was settled about 1851, originally called Water Valley, and took the name Jonah in 1884 as its mill, gin, school, and churches grew. The Hispanic cemetery served the community's Mexican-American families, separate from the main Jonah Cemetery established in 1902.
