Galen College of Nursing got its start in 1989, when the health company Humana opened Galen Health Institutes in Louisville, Kentucky, with a single one-year practical-nurse program offered in Louisville, San Antonio and St. Petersburg, Florida. Accreditation to award the two-year associate degree for registered nurses came in 2005, along with the Galen College of Nursing name, and HCA Healthcare became majority owner in 2020. The Austin-area campus opened on May 17, 2022, in about 26,000 square feet inside the St. David's Surgical Hospital building on West Louis Henna Boulevard in Round Rock, where it offers vocational nursing, an LVN-to-ADN bridge and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with Galen's graduate nursing degrees available online.
