South University-Austin is the Central Texas campus of South University, a school that began in Savannah, Georgia, in 1899 as Draughon's Practical Business College, teaching bookkeeping, typewriting and shorthand. The college was renamed Draughon's Junior College in 1974 and South College in 1986, and it became South University in 2001 after earning regional accreditation to award master's degrees. Following a period of ownership by Education Management Corporation from 2003 and the Dream Center Foundation from 2017, it became independent again in 2023. Its Austin-area campus in Round Rock focuses on health care, offering programs such as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and a Physical Therapist Assistant associate degree alongside business, criminal justice and psychology programs.
