History
Whitehall, also called the Colonel Joseph H. Polley House, was built in the early 1850s (about 1854) as the home of Austin colonist Joseph Henry Polley near Sutherland Springs in Wilson County. Polley was later active in developing the Sutherland Springs community, and the house—documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey, including 1936 photographs of its grounds and quarters—reflects the plantation-era architecture of early Texas. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
